WereBeasts:
Therianthropy is the mythological ability of human beings to metamorphose into animals by means of shapeshifting. It is possible that cave drawings found at Les Trois Frères, in France, depict ancient beliefs in the concept. The most well known form of therianthropy is found in stories concerning werewolves. By definition, this is a Were-beast, and since there is such a grab bag of information I am going to do my best to consolidate this.
Werebeasts are those who are born with the gift, or who are given it through the form of a bite or some sort of fluid exchange, and are humans with the abilities to take on animalistic forms or features. This includes certain perks from said beasts, and each set of perks will be in accordance to it's nature, so no strength of a bear if you are a werecat for instance.
I am aware that LKH fans and players will wish to use the sort of power base or magical abilities found in the series, and though I wish each person to have full creative freedom, for the sake of those who are unfamiliar or unaware of the series I must deny this on the grounds that most will find it confusing.
However, if certain things are desired, please ask the RO for information and permission for said wish.
Splices:
This is where things fundamentally split off from werebeasts. Splices are not born or infected, rather they are made through magical and genetic interference, causing an entire new species that can not revert to it's original form. Rather than take on the form of what ever beast they are spliced with, they instead take on certain features, like permanent night vision or increased hearing.
This is not without cost though. Those who are spliced often struggle with various mental and health issues, and if one were to create a splice character, there would have to be a form of a flaw in the general make up.
Depending on the type of splice, physical characteristics are seen depending on the type. If one were spliced with a snake, scales or some form of growth as such would be seen in patches on the skin, as well as slit pupils. If one were spliced with a cat or dog, pointed or elongated ears would be found, as well as an inability to sweat through ones skin.
The mental issues of a splice depends on the type of animal. Hawks and birds of prey find it uncomfortable to be on the ground, and those with that mentality would struggle to be anywhere under five stories high. Animals such as wolves or lions have a pack mentality, and will often go mad or feral without a pack mate, though the mate being a fellow splice or were is unneeded. Bears and tigers are known to be solitary hunters and do not do well with anyone, and are violently territorial, to the point of bodily harm or even murder.
Please consult the RO with any Questions.
